02 Jan 2011

This will be my last post. We are shopping today (3 Jan) and flying back to South Africa tomorrow (4 Jan). We went to Volendam on the 2nd Jan. What a grt little town visited by many people. Its basically a small town close to the huge Ijssel lake:
We had a traditional Holland lunch here with the following on the menu:
Bittergarnituur
Ham en Kaas tosties
Uitsmijters
Poffertjies

Here is a lot of little shops and a woman's paradise:

It was so cold that the lake water was frozen so hard that people could walk on the ice:

We are on our way back to Holland. Last stop was the Eiffel Tower. The top was closed on Wednesday when we were there and again today it was closed due to bad weather. We did manage to go to the second level - what an amazing structure to visit! What a way to start 2011!:
On the 1st level we found this ice bar and ice skate ring - of all places?!
The view from the 2nd level was amazing - the air was very misty and not suitable to take photos:
The 2 people who made this trip possible was:
Theo - for his excellent arrangements and grt research completed on where we should go and where we should stay. Because of this our holiday was the most amazing experience!
Elaine - for having the idea and vision to take our kids skiing and to Disney. Having both these holidays in one trip is like going on 2 holidays at once!
A big thank you for all the Euros and sponsorship of our trip!
